New Baby
Our new baby is here. Alexander Justin was born on January 10th at 3:04 pm. He was 7 lbs, 4 oz and 20 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great. We came home yesterday and are just getting used to the new routine. Grace doesn’t mind the addition so far.

The Basement is Done
I am so excited. The basement is finally done. I took two days off and finished it earlier this week. We got the carpeting put in earlier in the week and today we started getting the furniture delivered. It looks great and I can’t wait to lounge downstairs and really start enjoying it.
The project was a lot of work but I am proud of it. And the results are great. I will post pictures shortly.

Basement Update
The basement is going very well. I have completed the trim in the front half of the basement. The large project was the granite around the fireplace. It wasn’t as hard as I thought and it turned out great. I had considered buying 4 large granite pieces, but decided to purchase thin granite tile. I hadn’t laid tile before, but Home Depot was having a class on Saturday and I decided to sit in. It wasn’t necessary, but I picked up a few hints. I left no space between the granite and I didn’t use any grout. I am not too worried about it.
The mantel was from the fireplace shop. I purchased a large mantel then they recommended for the fireplace. However, it fit directly under the half wall and looks built in. The trim from the shelf to the mantel was a little difficult to cut. The jig saw worked well and there isn’t much space.
The only items left are the build in bookcases and the desk. There is only two weeks until carpeting so I will be finishing everything up over the next two weeks.

Kites
On Tuesday, Grandma and Grandpa Fleming gave Grace a kite. Yesterday evening we decided to try it out. It was a warm, but windy evening. We were grilling chicken and decided to get the kite out. We went to the backyard and tried to get the kite up. (more…)

Basement Update - April 5th
The basement is really moving along. We completed the drywall and have the primer on the walls. We use the primer before the paint to create an even surface. We tinted the primer so that we can tell what the final wall color will look like and to aid coverage. There are a few areas that I will need to go back and add more mortar to some of the walls. I don’t have enough on most of the external corners and the edge of the tape is showing. It should take a few hours and I may do this some evening. I have a list of the trim and casing that I need and I am almost done with my design for the bookshelves. I have also decided on how I am going to do the fireplace. I will use black granite between the fireplace and the mantel. It will look really sharp.

New Job
Today is my last day at my current employer. I have only been here for a short time. It just wasn’t a good fit. Looking back, I believe that I need three key items for employment. First, I need a reasonable salary. Everyone has their own definition of reasonable, but based on my prior experience and salary, (more…)

Basement Update - March 13st
I spend Saturday taping, mudding and sanding drywall. I started in the back of the basement, where if mistakes are made it would not be noticed. But the back of the basement is hard. There are a lot of corners and angles. I am looking forward to the main room. The ceiling is big and flat. It will go much faster. On Saturday, I got the ceiling taped in the back of the basement. I sanded the two walls and then completed the second coat. The sanding works very well, but I know that I put on too much mud. The main room will be much better.

Walking
Grace has been walking all over the house. Everyone was here last weekend. Grandma and Grandpa stayed Saturday and Sunday night. Uncle Paul and (soon to be) Aunt Debbie also stayed. Grace really enjoyed all of the attention, but didn’t walk nearly as much as she had been. (more…)
Grace in Hats
Grace looks very good in hats. I saw this last week and then again today. Last week, Grace and I went shopping for a new hat for our trip to Houston. We tried on all of the hats at Old Navy. The pink hats were very cute, but I picked a blue denim hat with flowers. We walked around the store with it and she took it off and on her head. During checkout the cashier commented on how cute Grace is.
Today, I was wearing my tan Georgetown hat and Grace was interested in it. I placed it on her head and she had a big smile. So cute.

Basement Update - Feb 23rd
Almost finished the drywall last weekend. A picture is below to see what the basement looks like. I was surprised on how much it is starting to look like a room.
